Dhokra Work Figure of Durga - Ca 100 Yrs Old Shelf hand-painted spotting and simplified formThis Durga Statue was made by Gond Tribesmen using the lost wax technique. Its is circa 100 years old The body of the statue is roughly formed from clay. Then beeswax is mixed with a little oil and kneaded well to soften it. The figure is sculpted from this wax mixture, fashioning all the minute details. When finished the entire figure is then coated with clay made from termite hills to create the mould. The mould is then dried and fired in an oven
