Nandi, the sacred bull, is the loyal companion and mount of Lord Shiva symbolising strength, purity and steadfast devotion. Figures such as this were hand carved by village artisans and placed in household shrines or temple niches, where they received offerings of flowers, oil, and red vermilion pigment. Fashioned from dense teak with
