Painted Mongolian Sideboard - 19th Century Apothecary Cabinets supported on a cast stambhaThis antique Mongolian sideboard was used for storing clothing and grain by the nomadic people of Mongolia & Northern Shanxi in the 19th century. Unusually the scenes on the front panels are framed by pomegranates. The scenes depict workers and youths playing outside, framed beautifully by a deep red background. The frame is a faded black. These sideboards were also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. The front doors have been modified
