With bold black characters on a yellow background, these plates were designed for visibility on the road. From 1914 to 1918, Illinois front plates featured airflow slots, one of several methods used to allow ventilation for the radiator, on early vehicles. Since the U. S. didnt standardize license plate sizes until 1956, these plates are
